Messerschmitt 109, the most widely known German fighter in World War II. It gained its popularity in the Spanish Civil War, when the Germans came to the aid of General Franco in Spain. Here, it is seen in the British Air Museum in 1990.

German Stuka Dive Bomber was used in the dive bombing of Poland, when the Germans started World War II in September 1939. It struck the Polish people with terror because it whistled as it dove. Here, it is seen in the British Air Museum in 1990.

German Focke-Wulf 190. This was probably the best German fighter of World War II before the Jet Age. It was armed with machine guns and .20mm cannons. Here, it is seen in the British Air Museum in 1990.

British Spitfire was a very popular and the most effective fighter plane that the British had in World War II. It gained its popularity during the Blitz. It was distinguished by its diminutive size and elliptical-shaped wings.
