Richard Lewis, Senior and Junior: Father-Son Patriotism
Richard J. Lewis, Sr., first president of the American National Bank of Eau Claire, reached the rank of Commander in the Navy; in preparation for D-Day, his duties included arranging the shipping of supplies to England. Lewis's military career began during World War I, when he was Second Lieutenant in the Army Signal Corps, serving in the particularly dangerous position of balloon observer. Balloon observers had a survival rate of only 10%.

Richard "Dick" Lewis, Jr. served in the Air Corps as a Captain and piloted a B-25 Billy Mitchell medium bomber in the South Pacific. Prior to the war, Lewis was a four-letter winner in three different sports at Eau Claire Senior High School. After the war, Dick followed in his father's footsteps and became president of the American National Bank in Eau Claire.

(Leader-Telegram) D. L. Davis, United States Navy, serving somewhere in the South Pacific, has been promoted to Seaman First Class, according to word received by his wife, Hazel, who lives at 1207 Barron Street.

His father, Perry Davis, Carpenter's Mate Second Class, is serving somewhere in New Guinea.
