Pearl Harbor

To Americans, December 7, 1941, was "a day that will live in infamy," and one that marked America's entry into a global war. Before that date, most Americans had never heard of Pearl Harbor but, after December 7, 1941, they would never forget it. It was on that fateful, Sunday morning that the Japanese made their surprise attack which destroyed 19 ships of the United States Pacific Fleet and some 200 aircraft. Two waves of Japanese planes attacked that day, coming from six carriers stationed about 200 miles due north of the island of Oahu.
