Area Deluged by Large Mail From Soldiers Abroad
Dozens of residents of Eau Claire and vicinity having relatives in service in the European Theater of War were literally deluged with letters early this week. In most instances, the overseas mail came after none had been received for a month or longer.

The influx was noticeable at the Eau Claire Post Office.

Postmaster Thomas Murphy explained the situation by saying that the mail must have been delayed for some time at some point in transit from which it was all suddenly released.

"Most of the carriers had packets containing several letters for the same address," the Postmaster said.

Record was one packet, from a soldier abroad, addressed to an Eau Claire relative containing 16 letters. Others contained from three or four.
