Eau Claire Girl's Husband Killed in Action on Iwo Jima

Private Donald B. Tyner, United States Marine Corps of Rogers Park, IL, whose widow is an Eau Claire girl, formerly Miss Bernice Wagnild, was killed in action on March 3 on Iwo Jima.

Vesper memorial services in his honor were held Sunday, April 22, at 4:33 pm at the Congregational Church at Rogers Park, the Reverend Stanley B. Crosland, pastor, and these were attended, among others, by Eau Claire relatives.

Born at LaPorte, IN on October 18, 1923, Private Tyner was 22 years old. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines on March 30, 1942. After a short training period, he was sent overseas and served 22 months in the Pacific area before his first leave.

It was during this furlough that he married Miss Bernice Wagnild of Eau Claire. He spent six months at Camp LeJeune, NC, after which he was again sent overseas and was attached to the Fourth Marine Division. His death followed in action on Iwo Jima.

Beside his widow, he is survived by a brother, Private First Class O. David Tyner, Jr., home on leave from Germany, and by two sisters, Mrs. Anna Mabel Tyner King and Mrs. Mary Tyner Ranahan.
