The WAC Mothers Club of Eau Claire elected officers and completed other details of organization at its second meeting, Friday afternoon, at the YMCA. Mrs. Frank Snyder is president; Mrs. Merton Badman, vice-president; Mrs. Conrad Kling, secretary; Mrs. Alice Stevens, treasurer; and Mrs. E. M. Deming, sergeant at arms. Members voted to hold one afternoon and one evening meeting each month. Thursdays were chosen for the evening meeting; Fridays for the afternoon. Meetings will be held in the American Legion Hall. Light refreshments will be served. Twelve members were present at the meeting. Lieutenant Mable Barton and Corporal Henryetta Bush were in charge of the meeting until officers were installed. Private Ruth Deming Moake of the WAC, on furlough, who accompanied her mother to the meeting, acted as sergeant at arms and led the group in the salute to the flag. Dorothea Penor led the singing of the national anthem. Reverend Ray Rucki of St. Patrick's Church gave the WAC Mother's Prayer, a prayer compiled and adopted by the WAC Mothers Association of Baltimore, Maryland. Lieutenant Barton spoke on the purposes of the Mothers Club and its history. It is a national organization, founded one year ago. All mothers of women serving in, or honorably discharged from, the WAC are eligible to become active members. This includes mothers of adopted daughters. Other women relatives of WACs, aunts, sisters, or close friends are eligible for associate memberships and may attend all meetings, but have no vote. An effort is being made to contact all mothers in this vicinity who have daughters in the Women's Army. Following the business meeting, Lieutenant Barton installed the newly elected officers. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. |
