DONALD G. SEVERSONLieutenant Donald G. Severson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Severson of Boyceville, is with the Eighth Air Force in England. He arrived overseas the first week in July and has been flying in missions over eastern Germany. He entered service on November 10, 1942 and was stationed at Aberdeen, Maryland, until April 1, when he was transferred to the Air Corps as a cadet. He took his pre-flight training at Maxwell Field, AL; primary at Jackson, TN; basic at New Port, AR; and advanced training at Stuttgart, AR, where he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant and received his silver wings as a pilot. He received further training at Chanute Field, IL, where he was rated as first pilot on a B-17. He took his final training at Rapid City, SD. Lieutenant Severson flew his own plane, with his crew of 10 men, from Kearney, Nebraska to Ireland; then on to England. He is a member of a heavy bomber group in England. An older brother, First Sergeant Orris L. Severson, has been in England since April with a chemical base depot company. He had been stationed at Camp Sibert, as an instructor since June 1942. His wife resides at the former home at Portland, Oregon. The two brothers hope to see each other in England. Lane E. Severson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Severson, entered service recently and is in the Navy. He is in boot training at Great Lakes Naval Station, IL. He has a wife and two children living at De Kalb, IL. |

Motor Machinist's Mate Third Class Lane E. Severson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eli S. Severson,
Boyceville, recently arrived in the Pacific Theater of War. He was
inducted into the Navy on August 1, last, and received his training at
Great Lakes and other naval training stations.
Severson is serving on the USS Mellena in the amphibious unit. His wife and their two children reside at DeKalb, IL. Two brothers are also in the service, Lieutenant Orris L. Severson, serving with the 51st Chemical Processing Company, has been in France more than a year. Lieutenant Donald G. Severson, who served with the Eighth Air Force, has been a prisoner of the Germans since August 16, 1944. Last word from him, received by his parents, was dated November 21, last. |
