| STEINKE BROTHERS, FRED, DONALD, MARVIN |
| Private Marvin O. Steinke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred
Steinke, Fall Creek, is now at a Nazi prison camp, Stalag, Germany,
according to word received by his mother a week ago. He had previously
been reported as missing in action.
He entered the service in November 1942 and received his training at Camp Wolters, TX. When he first went overseas, he served in the North African Campaign and then took part in the invasion of Italy. Word received directly from him for the last time was on September 1, and he was reported missing on September 19. One brother, Private Donald Steinke, was killed in Italy on September 24. His mother, who works at the Pressure Cooker Plant here to aid boys, said she received the two messages the same week, one of the death of Donald; the other of Marvin's being reported missing in action. A letter concerning another brother, Private First Class Frederick Steinke, who was wounded in Italy on November 8, reports that his condition is improving. He also served in North Africa. A fourth Steinke brother, Private First Class Albert Steinke, has been serving in New Guinea for the past two years. Previous to that, he was stationed in Australia with the Medical Corps. One boy, still at home, became 18 this spring but was deferred for farm work. The Steinkes operate a farm near Fall Creek. |
