Lieutenant Thompson was flying a squadron commander from a base in Italy.

Lieutenant David William Thompson, Army Air Corps pilot and squadron leader, reported missing in action over Yugoslavia on June 13, is a prisoner of war of the Germans, according to a War Department report to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Thompson of Baltimore, MD, formerly of Eau Claire. Lieutenant Thompson's squadron was based in Italy.
